Our Mission
Empower U, in partnership with our community, provides specialized instruction and opportunities specific to employment and independent living skills necessary for young adults to live a purposeful and productive life.

- We provide opportunities to practice and learn skills on job sites and in the community.
- We provide instructional resources to meet young adults’ postsecondary vision in the areas of independent living, employment, and community participation.

- We provide opportunities and resources for young adults to communicate authentically, in all environments and advocate for their vision.

Empower U Cancellation Information
If the student's resident district is closed due to weather, they will not have transportation and do not need to attend.
If Kent ISD is closed, all Empower U sites will be closed.
If Kent ISD Center Programs are closed, all Empower U sites will be closed.
Specific District Situations
If Grand Rapids Public Schools are closed, then the following sites will be closed:
- Empower U Central
- Corewell Health
- GVSU Eberhard Center
- Cornerstone University
- Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital
- Comprenew at Kent Career Tech Center West
- Salvation Army Kroc Center
- David D. Hunting YMCA
If Byron Center Public Schools are closed, then the SpartanNash YMCA site is closed.
If Comstock Park Public Schools are closed, then the Kent District Library (KDL) site is closed.
If Forest Hills Public Schools are closed, then the Cascade Meijer site is closed.
If Grandville Public Schools are closed, then the Goodwill site is closed.
If Kent Career Tech Center is closed, then Comprenew site is closed.
If Kentwood Public Schools are closed, then the Special Olympics site is closed.
If Northview Public Schools are closed, then the Kuyper College site is closed.
If Rockford Public Schools are closed, then the North Kent Connect site is closed.
If Sparta Area Schools are closed, then Empower U North is closed.
If Wyoming Public Schools are closed, then Empower U South is closed.
